CHILDREN’S DENTISTRY
HELPING YOUR FAMILY GET COMFORTABLE EVERY VISIT
Everyone needs routine dental care to keep a healthy smile, but children in particular need special attention because their smile is constantly growing and changing, sometimes rapidly. This means having a dedicated dentist and team is essential to not only monitor your child’s oral health, but help them along the way. We look forward to creating a fun and welcoming environment for patients of all ages, including your youngest family members, so give Dr. Sharp a call today to schedule their appointment for children's dentistry in Lewisville, TX!
Children’s Dental Checkups & Cleanings
During your child’s first visit, we spend more time discussing best practices at home and treatments to consider in the future, especially when not many of their teeth have erupted yet. As they get acclimated with our dental office, we will be able to perform more detailed exams of their mouth and complete cleanings to remove plaque and tartar. Keep in mind that teeth can begin developing decay as soon as they erupt, so we will make sure that their smiles are healthy and free of any problems while they are here.
Dental Sealants
While children are practicing their at-home oral care, it helps to have some additional protection during their early years of development. With dental sealants, we can easily and affordably provide this service. Dental sealants make use of composite resin to seal vulnerable teeth away from food debris and plaque (particularly the molars and premolars). Once applied to the teeth and cured, they should last for several years, giving you and your child more confidence during at-home brushing and flossing.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride is found in foods, your neighborhood’s public drinking water, and in most cases the oral care products you use. Routine fluoride application is essential for keeping teeth strong and healthy, which is why we provide treatments with it following your cleaning. In most cases, we will apply fluoride once every six months, which is typically often enough to keep decay and cavities at bay, especially for children who are still learning their brushing and flossing.
Special Needs Dentistry
We want to make dental visits easy and comfortable for every person that enters our dental office, no matter what special accommodations they may need. At our dental office, we are happy to help family members who have special needs and do everything possible to help them get comfortable and prepared for their care. We ask that you call us ahead of time so we can better prepare for you or your family member’s upcoming visit.
Athletic Mouthguards
Teeth are extremely vulnerable to damage when they are not properly protected while playing contact sports. This means, if you have a family member who loves to play football, basketball, hockey, or a similar sport where the chance for impact is high, we recommend a custom-made athletic mouthguard. Unlike store-bought solutions, our mouthguards are made to fit as comfortably and effectively as possible. This ensures that your child will actually want to use it every time they practice and play!
